Luvata Pori Increases the Use of Renewable Electricity
Hydropower fuels now 10% of Luvata Pori’s operations. The company aims to increase the amount of renewably produced electricity every year.
Luvata Pori currently utilizes a mix of energy sources with 10% coming from hydropower and the remaining portion from nuclear power. The company is actively taking steps to increase the proportion of electricity generated from renewable sources.
“In Luvata’s strategy, we are aiming for 100% renewable energy by 2035. The introduction of hydropower to our energy portfolio is a concrete step towards this goal”, explains Saara Koski, EQP Director from Luvata Pori.
The electrical energy Luvata Pori uses is already carbon-free. The company has made both short-term and long-term plans to advance its commitment to corporate responsibility in the coming years.
Yearly Sustainability Actions
Hydropower was chosen as the first addition to the energy profile, with other renewable energy sources under consideration. Every year, the company will decide which energy sources to add to the profile.
“There are many options available. Hydropower was an easy decision, as in Finland there’s plenty of water, but limited year-round sunlight”, explains Koski.
Luvata Pori has recently taken many steps in their sustainability journey. The company has, for example, introduced carbon-free electricity and district-heat, renewable heating oil, renewable fuel for internal transportation and 50 % of LED-lightings in production facilities. Currently, Luvata Pori is actively working on finding a suitable natural gas replacement.
”We work with both large and small companies globally. Our customers have been more and more interested in our value chains and emissions. By implementing sustainability measures, we aim to stay as the preferred partner for our customers, but also to do our part on behalf of the globe as a corporate citizen”, summarizes Koski.
