Luvata attracts interest at magnet conference

The International Conference on Magnet Technology is the most important conference for scientists and engineers to report and discuss the latest progress in the applications of magnets.  Since 1968 the conference, held every other year, has been hosted by America, Europe and Asia, with each taking turns. This year’s 21st conference event, took place in Hefei, Anhui, China, October 18 - 23, 2009, and was hosted by the Institute of Electrical Engineering, the Institute of Plasma Physics and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

With over 800 attendees from all over the world, the conference provided a unique opportunity to discuss anything from Magnets for Particle Physics to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Medical & Biological Applications.

Luvata Superconductor Business Unit participated at the conference with an exhibit booth.  Luvata’s advanced products such as low-temperature superconductors and specialty hollow copper tubing both play a critical role in many of the world’s magnet applications.

“As China is looking into advanced healthcare, many firms are trying to get into the MRI magnet and systems building activities.  The Luvata team used the opportunity at the conference to meet with many existing and potential future customers, “ stated Hem Kanithi, Vice President of Business Development for Luvata Waterbury.

The next Magnet Technology Conference will be held in Marseille, France September 12-16, 2011.

Luvata team (standing L-R): Jukka Somerkoski from the Luvata mill in Zhongshan, China,  Hem Kanithi, Luvata Waterbury, and Antti Kilpinen from Luvata Pori discuss developments and production capabilities of Luvata Superconductor with the Chairman of the MT-21 conference: Prof. Luguang Yan of Institute of Electrical Engineering, Beijing.

In May 2017, the Special Products division of Luvata was acquired by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation.
