Research & Development

Luvata is synonymous with technology development and innovations.

Already half of the world's primary copper is produced by the Flash Smelting process developed by Outokumpu some 60 years ago.   The roots of Luvata's technology developments stem from this common past. Additionally, technology innovations such as Up-casting, Cast & Roll, Roll & Weld have been attractive choices for the cost-competitive manufacture of copper products.

R & D activities

The knowledge our metallurgists and engineers posess in metals casting, forming, and other related technologies enable us to provide new business applications for our customers. We maintain extensive contacts with Universities and research institutes around the world. We publish regularly, engange in patent activity, and consult on major frontier technology projects such as particle accelerators and fusion devices.

R & D Centers, with own pilot plants, are situated in Pori, Finland and Vasteras, Sweden, where the basic research of solidification and plastic deformation of copper are being carried out. Our Forming Equipment/Technology units market and sell a variety of complementing and enabling tecnologies and engineering services.

Individual R & D programs are run at many of our units in close cooperation with the customers.
