Heavy Gauge PCBs

The PCB market for the automotive industry continues to expand. Huge amount of electronics in vehicles brings higher demands. In most of the new vehicles, a new type of power supply application will replace the traditional technology, which has been heavier in weight and having lots of wiring.

We have several years history in demanding automotive market. By using OF-OK® oxygen-free copper we can offer excellent electrical conductivity. One or both sides of a substrate are normally clad with our 400 μm thick copper. This type of a heavy copper clad laminate is the base material for PCB with high current densities. Good bending behaviour of OF-OK® oxygen-free copper enables the PCB manufacturer to create more robust structures and solutions.

In case of direct bonding properties, we’ll offer our OFE-OK, excellent in vacuum behaviour. This material is typical for copper-to-glass and copper-to-ceramic bonding. In direct bonding process, copper is oxidized and the oxide layer is used as a glue to bind it to glass or ceramics. If the adherence is not good the component leaks and the desired vacuum is lost. Already small amount of phosphorus results in dissociation of oxide from the Cu surface. Thus, ASTM and EN specify a maximum content of 3 ppm of phosphorus for Cu-OFE.

For PCB applications we can supply raw material either as wide coils or sheets produced at our cut-to-length line.
