Seawire - Aquaculture Wire

Seawire

Healthy, low-maintenance environment for fish farming

Seawire™ is a copper wire that solves one of the biggest problems with offshore fish farming. It creates a natural protective surface oxide on the wire that is effective against biofouling.

Seawire™ is resistant to barnacles, algae and other organisms that often disrupt the flow of water, creating a breeding ground for diseases and infections in the aquaculture.

Benefits

The antifouling properties of Seawire™ used in mesh cages:

  • reduce cleaning and maintenance costs
  • improve the health and environment for fish
  • increase water flow
  • superior durability against currents and predators

Applications

The potential market for Seawire is huge with applications ranging from lobster and crab traps to cages for all imaginable types of aquaculture including some species that were previously unsuitable for farming.

Seawire™ is available in three new copper alloy wires.  It can use a smaller diameter wire, which is lighter in weight when compared with conventional copper wire based solutions, delivering additional savings on raw material and downstream transportation costs.

Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector. Around 70 percent of the world's fish species are quickly becoming depleted*, so the need for more sustainable fish farming has never been greater.
