CEO confirms another step forwards in growth strategy
(16 August 2011). Luvata, a world leader in metal solutions manufacturing and related engineering services, announces plans to expand its aluminum production plant in Grenada, Mississippi USA. The expansion represents a company investment of over $1 million for machinery and equipment used to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency heat exchangers for the HVACR industry. Luvata is the world’s biggest producer of coils and coolers for applications including commercial, industrial and mobile cooling and refrigeration.
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) worked closely with Luvata Grenada and local officials to help facilitate the expansion. The agency provided assistance for the project through the ‘Mississippi Job Protection through Energy Economic Development’ (MJPEED) grant program, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and administered by MDA. The MJPEED grant program provides funding to eligible Mississippi businesses for energy efficient retrofits and upgrades, to help them cut costs, reduce energy consumption and create or retain jobs.
The 180,000 square foot city-owned building will be upgraded to include better and more energy efficient lighting with the grant funds. “I am always pleased to see the state’s existing businesses expand, and I thank Luvata for its continued investment in the state of Mississippi, in Grenada and in our workforce,” said Leland Speed, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA).
“Luvata’s expansion in Grenada is another step forward in our growth strategy, which leads with technology-driven, high value-added products and solutions,” says CEO John Peter Leesi. “This expansion is driven by the demand for more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products. With the support from MDA, not only will the products we manufacture be more efficient, but so will the building facilities.”
The aluminum plant manufactures all aluminum microchannel coils, the next generation of energy efficient condenser coils for converting gas to liquid. In microchannel coils the tubes are flat and, instead of one large port, they contain multiple micro ports with a unique-unimetal design that is 100% recyclable, lighter in weight and highly efficient. The expansion will include the latest automated leak testing technology and will provide the flexibility to manufacture wider microchannel coils for additional applications not currently available in the market place.
Luvata is the leading international metals supplier of solutions, services, components and materials for manufacturing and construction. Luvata’s solutions are used in industries such as renewable energy, power generation, architecture, automotive, transport, medicine, air-conditioning, industrial refrigeration, consumer products and construction. The company’s continued success is attributed to its longevity, technological excellence and strategy of building partnerships beyond metals. Employing over 7,000 staff in 18 countries, Luvata works in partnership with customers such as Siemens, Toyota, CERN, Shaaz, and DWD International.
