Cost/benefit ratio for private people
January 9, 2009
In these hard times, I emphasize that the cost/benefit ratio for private people must be there for all solutions; otherwise it does not make sense. It won’t be easy and it won’t happen overnight, but I think we need 1st to keep the subsidies and feed-in tariffs and bank loans available, and after the grid-parity we can remove them and let the environmental consciousness and market competition take care of the rest.
We need to raise awareness thru campaigns of best practices in each country. How can you save energy and/or use renewable energies in a cost-efficient way in your own country or state?
There are many ways to do this I think; solar thermal feed-in tariff by Lakeland Electric in Florida is a good example. These campaigns need smart thinking and cooperation over the borderlines of end-users, financiers, governments and lawmakers to find the best ways. This needs to be done effectively so people don’t feel it is an extra burden to them, but a real benefit economically, increasing their energy-independency while saving the environment at the same.
It should also be emphasized, that this approach creates a lot of green-collar sustainable jobs with good future prospects. Jobs we can be proud of, and which create and preserve instead of further devastation to our planet.
