New edition of Brazing Handbook now available
A new edition of Luvata’s CuproBraze® Brazing Handbook is now published. The principal difference to the previous edition is that this book focuses on established and dominant technologies and the chapter on quality control has been expanded.
The CuproBraze process has been in commercial operation since 2000. Today, there are numerous CuproBraze plants running around the world, with more under construction. After 10 years of mass production, the CuproBraze technology still has enormous opportunity for new development and market potential for at least the next 30 years.
Detailed trends are described
The new Handbook details trends in the selection of furnaces, the application of filler materials, the assembly of components and control of the brazing operations. It highlights the fact that by using high-strength and high-conductivity copperalloys, it is possible to manufacture strong and efficient compact heat exchangers at a competitive cost all while using an environmentally friendly process.
The CuproBraze process enables the manufacture of charge air coolers that can withstand higher temperatures than existing aluminium coolers. This allows the transportation industry to continue reducing emissions and to increase fuel efficiency by providing an option to the temperature-challenged aluminium charge air coolers.
Easy to understand
The Handbook is written and edited in a way that makes the technology and the process easy to understand. In the last chapter, “CuproBraze in brief”, there are, at regular intervals, pointers with the message ”Important”, containing hints and directions for achieving the best results.
Finally, six key points for success are listed:
- Use clean parts
- Apply correct amount of filler material
- Do not overheat paste during drying
- Use suitable fixtures during brazing
- Check that the oxygen content in the furnace is less than 20 ppm
- Apply correct brazing temperature on the parts
The CuproBraze® Brazing Handbook is a tool to share the latest knowledge of the CuproBraze technology, gathered from Luvata, the International Copper Association and member companies of the CuproBraze Alliance. The editorial team included Markku Ainali, Peter Morsing, Anders Falkenö, Henrik Larsson and Robbie Robinson.
